Restore the Health and Appearance of Your Teeth with Natural-Looking Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a household name in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. As their name suggests, they cover the visible portion of your tooth to alter its appearance, size, shape, and health. While a dental crown strengthens a tooth more than ever, it is esthetically appealing. Once installed by Dr. Tina Foss, no one will tell it’s a restoration.

The Dental Crown Process

There are enough reasons you may need a dental crown. Dr. Foss may recommend a dental crown to support a bridge or dental implant. If you have extensive tooth damage, a dental crown covers your tooth to add resilience. Besides, we can use a crown to beautify your stained or misshapen tooth.

You must commit to at least two dental appointments for whatever reason you need a crown. During the initial consultation, we examine your tooth, and if it’s not infected and the surrounding bone is intact, we can restore it with a dental crown. The procedure involves:

  • Tooth preparation: After numbing your mouth, we file down your tooth to create space for a dental crown. Next, we take your bite impressions and develop models to be used by the dental lab to engineer your crowns.
  • Temporary crown: Since your new crown may take a few days to arrive, we install a semi-permanent crown to protect your prepped tooth and ensure that the way you eat and chew isn’t affected.
  • Final installation: When your crown is ready, you will book another appointment with Dr. Foss. She will remove the temporary crown, clean your tooth, and apply dental cement to bond your crown. However, before permanent bonding, we will make minor adjustments to the crown for a comfortable fit and natural look.

If your crown is well taken care of, it can protect your smile for over 15 years. Indeed, a dental crown is a worthwhile investment for a healthy, well-functioning smile.

Benefits of Porcelain Dental Crowns

While dental crowns can be made from gold or porcelain fused to metal (PFM), most clients prefer porcelain dental crowns because:

  • They are natural-looking
  • They are durable
  • They are stain-resistant
  • They are biocompatible (toxic-free)
