How much do you worry about bad breath? Do you ever wonder if there may be something you can do to keep your teeth healthy and strong while enjoying fresh breath? For example, you may know that using breath mints or chewing gum can immediately freshen your breath, but if they have sugar in them, you could be promoting the bacteria that can cause bad breath. However, if you use mouthwash, you can enjoy healthy breath while protecting your teeth.
Please note, however, that bad breath brought on by certain foods, such as coffee or garlic, is usually only temporary. In these instances, a breath mint or stick of gum can be extremely useful. However, halitosis—which is another name for bad breath—could be a sign of more significant problems.
Although chewing gum and breath mints can cover up bad breath, mouthwash can actually help you fight against the problems that cause bad breath to begin with. Furthermore, mouthwash can also be especially useful if you’ve already been diagnosed with gum disease or tooth decay. Similarly, mouthwash is most useful when used with brushing and flossing, and can also help you keep your mouth even cleaner.
While adding mouthwash to your regular oral routine can be helpful, please note that there are several types of mouthwash, and not all of them may be right for you. We recommend speaking with our dentist, Dr. Tina Foss before you decide on the best mouthwash for you.
